How many successful people are unaccustomed to hard work? They say it takes about 10 years to become an overnight success but few people look at those stories of intense labor, dedication, training, and want to emulate that. There is an obsession with the “genetic freak” in athletics, the kid who just can’t miss, who is faster than the rest, but that obsession fades after highschool and especially after college. In the big leagues everyone is the genetic freak, and later in life nobody really cares. When the glory of highschool or maybe college sports is past for 99.99% of us – what gets you up in the morning? What makes you want to try? For me it’s passion – it’s watching people around me who WANT to want to get better. (Not a typo) I get up every morning because I will not be outworked, I will never be beaten by someone who is spoiled by position or talent because the spirit of determination will take me where they are not willing to go, and I want to awaken that drive in other people. Every day we do more, every day we out-life, out-run, out-rep those who are sleeping, every workout we push past the people who used to want it, and every high-five or cheer from your teammates solidifies who we are as CrossFitters.
